About Therapists

Momentum for Life Counseling offers mental health services for youth, adults and couples. Kelly-Jane Monahan and Courtney Porter are complementary therapists who have combined their experiences and expertise to offer counseling services to the Champaign community and surrounding areas.

Kelly-Jane Monahan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana. She moved to C-U in 2012 from sunny Los Angeles where she lived as an actor for many years. Her study of acting inspired her passion for people and human behavior.

Kelly-Jane is passionate about relationships and clear communication!  She works with individuals, couples and families using a variety of therapeutic approaches to help people live the lives they want to live and cultivate the kinds of relationships they want to have.

Courtney Porter is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and earned her Master’s Degrees in Social Work and Education from the University of Illinois. Courtney also holds two Bachelor Degrees in Criminal Justice Sciences and Education and has a background in juvenile detention and probation.

In the educational arena Courtney has 20 years of experience, serving as a teacher for 10 years and an administrator for 10 years, working with adults, children and families experiencing and coping with anxiety, ADHD, autism, depressive disorders, self-esteem concerns, developmental relationship issues, and trauma. Courtney also has a passion in working with LGBTQ clients.

Courtney is passionate about helping others and has demonstrated this in her roles as a student athlete, athletic coach, and as a public school teacher and administrator.
